19 Sep Foodie Tip Alert: Smoked Vanilla Old Fashion @ Antlers Steakhouse
For serious steak eaters, a trip to a steakhouse is measured by the preparation, texture, and flavor of the restaurant’s butcher selection. When all three of the above processes are mastered, the experience is sometimes otherworldly, regardless of cut. Antlers Steakhouse is located upstairs inside the newly opened Olivers Brewhouse and Grill. It’s an intimate, classic dining experience, with a high-end wine menu and unique cocktail concoctions.
Expectations were high upon my recent visit to the newly opened Antlers Steakhouse. For one, I was hungry, but it was also my first time visiting, so I was hopeful that the menu would offer something spectacular. And Antlers did not disappoint. Although my meal was spectacular (more on that later), I decided to take a leap of faith and try a drink outside of my normal lane (i.e., my typical lane is Crown Royal or Anejo Tequilla), so I ordered up a Smoked Vanilla Old Fashion.
Yep…Its pretty cool.
The presentation on this drink is unlike any that I’ve had before. I thought my waiter brought over some encyclopedias by accident, thinking that I might want to read up on something. But my Vanilla Old Fashion was soaking up the smoke inside.
The Smoked Vanilla Old Fashion is a great drink and hits all of the flavor notes. The presentation is fun and makes for a great Instagram post. I personally love smoked Whiskey, so this type of flavor is welcome for me. Those sensitive or dislike smoky flavor notes can simply order a Vanilla Old Fashion minus the smoke. If you enjoy Old Fashions, you’ll want to try this one upon your next visit.
Dinner did not disappoint
After a few old fashions, I was ready for dinner. Ribeye was on the menu, and we ordered several sides. Antlers serve up dry-age steaks, and dry-aged beef is the cadillac of the steak world. Dry aging removes moisture from the steak and gives it an umami-rich flavor that is moist and defining. And while you can attempt the technique at home, it doesn’t come easy. Ribeye is served with a side of horseradish, which tastes fresh and compliments the meat flavor well.
Bonus Tip! Hashbrowns for dinner is a thing
There are many great sides, aka Table Shares, on the Antlers menu, and all of them are very tasty. But the Duck Fat Hashbrowns get a special shout-out as they exceeded my expectations. Sure, they are hashbrowns, but the flavor and crispiness go a long way and very much compliments the steak. In fact, if you really like hashbrowns, you might want to order your own serving!
Antlers is Foodie Approved!
Much has been made about the drinks and food, but the service was on point too. The support staff constantly walks around and pays attention to your table, water refills, clearing dishes, extra requests, etc. The staff want you to feel welcomed and are interested in ensuring your meal and experience are 100%.
